15 years ago, at a coffee shop on College Street in the heart of Toronto's Little Italy, Doodlebug of the legendary Digable Planets got together with two brothers, Lucas and Adrian, aka 80 Empire. The three talked about doing a song. The song was cut; sadly, it never saw the light of day. Fast forward to the pandemic, the three had managed to keep in touch over the years and casually spoke about making music. Those casual conversations evolved into the musical journey that is "A Galactic Love Supreme."
Every song a different painting, the canvas at its core is hip-hop; however, the album is meticulously textured with so many other influences from jazz to soul music. It is a healthy marriage of analog and digital; nostalgia meets contemporary. Boom bap cuts and soulified melodies, lyrically thoughtful and sincere in the production, interspersed with musical guests from actress/singer Michole White to Doodlebug's partner in rhyme, Butterfly, and the Empire's friends, Bone Crusher and Kxng Crooked, among many others. A Galactic Love Supreme is reminiscent of a time when music's sole obligation was to make you feel good and think critically.
