Ruston Kelly has established himself as an essential voice, capable of transforming his unsparing self-examination into moments of sublime catharsis. With a lyrical sensibility that constantly shifts from candid to poetic, the South Carolina-born singer/songwriter imbues his songs with equal parts nuanced confession and punk-rock irreverence. Dirt Emo was born out of that influence. It’s having peripheral elements of folk, americana, or country wrapped up in a confessional expression drawing.
